Sub-Contracts Category Manager

A Global player in its building management market, our Client is now seeking a Sub-Contracts Category Manager to cover their North, Scotland and Ireland district. Based in their Manchester office, you will be responsible for developing the strategic direction of the Supply Chain function within this increasingly high profile post. The Client is currently re-structuring its entire employee base, and this position will therefore allow a good proportion of strategic value to be added by the successful applicant.

Key Elements:-

  • Proactively engage with sales/project/service teams early in front-end planning during estimation to understand requirements and proactively develop SCM plans/strategies.
  • Provide proposal support tied to the business area needs.  This includes initiating Requests for Proposals (RFP), reviewing/analysing responses and providing guidance to the programme during the subcontractor selection process. 
  • Identify suppliers / sub-contractors to meet business requirements, qualify suppliers / sub-contractors in accordance with standard company policies.
  • Lead the development of a material programme strategy for sub-contracts.  This strategy covers the development of requirements through delivery of goods.
  • Manage the sub-contracts process from order generation, negotiations, and execution of the subcontract. 
  • Provide input to specifications - and work with suppliers in managing functional/technical specs where appropriate.
  • Drive the use of Preferred suppliers and use of negotiated catalogues by operations estimating team.
  • Create Requests for Quotation to gather bids from multiple suppliers / sub-contractors.
  • Review and evaluate bids for compliance with company requirements.
  • Review supplier/sub-contractor requested modifications to company standard T&C's and enter into any negotiations .
  • Define and maintain formal “category business plan”, including appropriate supplier/sub-contractor management strategy.
  • Work closely with appropriate category managers (both sub-contract and materials) to integrate project procurement with existing category strategies and agreements.
  • Work with Operations to create purchasing schedule based on project requirements and lead times of equipment / material.
  • Negotiate price, payment terms and other delivery-related terms with selected suppliers / sub-contractors.
  • Use applicable negotiation strategies to achieve savings and extended payment terms, including the use of e-auction tool.
  • Regularly represent SCM in sales/project/service team meetings to help set the strategic plan and identify supply chain risks and opportunities.
  • Develop fit-for-purpose contracting strategies.
  • Provide supervision.
  • Assist in auditing business purchase activity in accordance with standard company policies.

Experience:-

  • Bachelor’s Degree or University diploma. Maters degree preferred.
  • 5-8 Years Experience in a Purchasing, Supply Chain and/or Materials Management environment.
  • Sub-contractor/installer management, major project sourcing or project management experience is desired.
  • Proven track record in managing the entire sub-contract management process.
  • Technical skills such as engineering, software, IT is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle or similar procurement systems preferred.

  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written, ability to communicate effectively to varied audiences.
  • Proven track record that includes working collaboratively with Project Management and Engineering/Technical individuals.
  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Self-motivated, able to perform role with minimal supervision.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to consistently achieve results.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and suppliers to meet or exceed business objectives.
  • Six Sigma, CIPS, CPM, ISM, Lean desirable.
