Buyer : Non-Production (Indirects) - Interim

Our Client is urgently seeking an experienced Buyer for an interim position to cover for maternity leave. Ideally starting at the beginning of May, you will understand purchasing methods and quickly appreciate the company's needs. Although this position is initially temporary, there is potential for the right candidate to be offered a permanent placement if successful during the interim period.
Job Profile
To assist the Group Purchasing Manager for Non Production Items in the successful procurement of goods and services required by the Company.Main Duties and Responsibilities
This position reports to the Group Purchasing Manager and is principally responsible for ensuring the purchasing processes employed in the procurement of non-production items are completed in a timely and accurate manner; in order that goods and services are provided in a timely manner to an agreed specification at the lowest overall cost.. This position will have interaction with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the company.
The main duties include but not limited to the following: -
- Identifying and delivering net cost reduction inline with mutually agreed targets
- Reviewing purchase requisitions
- Understand contractual essentials
- Purchase Order generation
- Quotation analysis
- Query resolution (‘help desk’)
- Expediting
- Invoice Clearance
- Maintenance of the supplier database
- Product research
Characteristics and Requirements
It is envisaged that this position will be filled by a Purchasing Professional who can ‘hit the ground running’. The successful candidate will have the ability and desire to provide very high levels of customer service and work to high levels of accuracy. He/she must have:
- sound business understanding,
- good organisation skills,
- good mathematical aptitude,
- articulation with good verbal and written communication skills,
- ability to operate a personal computer using software such as Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint),
- ability to provide robust analysis and statistical data, (Excel proficient)
- strong commercial negotiation skills
- ability to interpret and challenge suppliers
- good interpersonal skills (as much of the output of this position will be derived from person’s input both inside and outside the organisation).
- attainment of CIPS Graduate Diploma or educated to degree level preferred
- previous experience within a similar Purchasing environment is essential
The individual must be versatile and a self-starter able to work without close supervision, understanding and recognising a need and taking the required actions.
Some travel is required within the West Midlands / Mid Wales localities, for which a pool car is provided.
